Matapu School is situated in a prominent dairy farming area, which draws a diverse mix of students and supportive whanau. The school was established in 1888 and celebrated its 125th jubilee in 2014. Matapu School enjoys tremendous bicultural community support, the nature of which allows us to enrich our learning programmes with a wide variety of experience and skills from our community.

Pyjama Day

Tomorrow, Friday the 1st of July, we are raising funds for Ronald McDonald House by having a Pyjama Day at school. This is a very worthy cause so please show your support by coming to school in PJs, dressing gowns and/or a onesie and bringing a gold coin donation.
Please wear uniform if not wearing Pyjamas.

We have just received some great news regarding the year 4/5/6 rippa comp tomorrow. The TRFU and Hawera Primary have now included us in the draw so please disregard the notice that was sent home earlier today. We will presume the same parents who indicated on the initial permission slip are taking their children to and from the venue or providing transport. Please email me at principal@matapu.school.nz if you have any questions. Otherwise we’ll see you tomorrow, please be at school by 8:45 am at the latest.

Wheels Day – Bus students

Bus students are allowed to bring scooters, skates and skateboards on the bus tomorrow on the condition that they hold them securely whilst on the bus, they are not to be left on the floor.


All larger wheels such as bikes and e-scooters etc will not be allowed on the bus.
