School Swimming Sports – Thursday 9th March

On Thursday 9th March at 12 pm we will hold our school swimming sports for students in years 3 – 8. This is a great event with options for students of all abilities. We would love to see Parents/Whanau at the event to cheer on our students. There will be a sausage sizzle for $2, organised for the whole school by the SPA Committee which our year 3-8 students will be able to have before swimming sports. Room 5 and 6 will have lunch during swimming sports. Please make sure your child has their swimming gear, drink bottle and two towels for the event. 

You can take your child home after the event, please just let their class teacher know.

Rippa Draw – Thursday 2nd March 2023

Here is this weeks Rippa draw. Please note that each team has two games, please make sure you turn up at the correct times. All students must wear their school t-shirt and footwear. No footwear means no playing. Please note: the belt must be worn on the outside of clothing, shirts tucked in and rips free so they can be ripped off – rips should be one on each side of the waist.  

Year 5-6 Matapu Gold have 1 game this week – bye for the second game.

Athletics & Hangi

Kia ora,

It is so amazing to see the support we have received for our hangi tomorrow. Food has been flowing in and our students and parents are hard at work preparing it today.

Please see a schedule for the events tomorrow:

Before school: please ensure your child has sunblock on, a packed lunch, drink bottle, and their school hat
Athletics events will start at 10:40 am (students to assemble on the field)
Students have to wear their school polo, but can wear mufti shorts
Hangi – plates of food will be available to be picked up from approximately 1 – 1:30 pm. Please bear with us for the timing as the weather can affect how long we need to keep it in the ground for
After your family has eaten the hangi, you are welcome to take your children home – please let your child’s class teacher know
The school pool is unavailable until 3:15 pm for community key holders

At this stage the weather is looking a bit unpredictable so we will make a call whether to postpone our athletics event by 9:30 am tomorrow morning. The hangi will proceed regardless of the weather, we may just be eating in our classrooms instead of on the field.

Please remember to bring a disposable plate for each hangi ticket as well as your own cutlery.

Reminder:

All hangi food items must be in tomorrow, vegetables and stuffing are being prepared at noon so need to be in prior to this time.

Please collect any required tickets tomorrow also, there will be no tickets handed out on Thursday.

Alert Subscriptions

Please update your school app alert subscriptions to apply to your child/ren’s classroom as well as the sports they may be interested in. This is done by clicking on the 3 yellow lines in the top right corner of the app homepage

All updates for specific sports are posted via the necessary school app tab so if you are not subscribed you may miss important notices.

A new sports tab has been added for Rippa which starts this week. If your child has signed up to Rippa please be sure to add this tab to your alert subscriptions.

Hangi

Dear Matapu Whanau,

Hopefully you have received the hangi notice and have already returned it or are in the process of doing so.

A few reminders; 
If you have untreated pellets at home or can source some for us, we would greatly appreciate it if these can start coming in ASAP please (we need 70 of them).
Food preparation will begin the day before hand on Wednesday the 22nd of February at 12pm. We will need lots of helpers to do this, Room 1-4 children will need to bring a potato peeler into school on this day to help.
Can all food please start coming in from Monday the 20th of February, which is when you’ll also be able to pick up your tickets. 

Pie Day orders

Reminder: All Friday Pie Day orders and payments are due by Thursday morning.

School Hangi

We are very excited to be holding our annual school hangi again this term on Thursday the 23rd of February. This event will coincide with our school athletics day where we will have athletics in the morning followed by the hangi in the afternoon.
Notices will be sent home today, which explain everything about the event and what your child will need to bring in. Please note that the notice is specific to your child.
We are also going to need about 70 un-treated pallets to burn for our hangi, so if you have some lying around or can source some for us, we would greatly appreciate it.

School Grade Rippa Competition 2023

Southern Rugby club are running a school Rippa competition this term. Details are in the form. Please sign your child/ren up via the link below before Tuesday 14th February.

School Pool – TEMPORARY CLOSURE

Matapu School Pool is closed for a chemical clean from Sunday the 22nd at 5pm until Monday 23rd at 9pm. Everything will be back up and running for swimming again on Tuesday morning. Apologies for any inconvenience.
